David C. Karli’s first task was to figure out how to understand what was inside the samples he took before implanting it into a patient. Even though it is the patient’s own tissue and the risk is extremely low, it was sill not good enough for him. Karli and his team investigated technologies to learn what was in the samples, how to measure them, validate their measurements, and control the final product. They called this process hemoanalysis.
