I’m sure many of you have heard about King Solomon, King of Israel thousands of years ago. According to the Bible, he had 700 wives and 300 concubines—a harem of 1000! He really did things 10X. Solomon accumulated 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horses. He built a temple and overlaid it with gold.
All of King Solomon’s goblets were gold, and the Bible says, “Nothing was made of silver because silver was considered of little value in Solomon’s days.” King Solomon was a millionaire and his kingdom extended from the Euphrates River to the border of Egypt. He owned property in an area roughly the size of Vermont. That’s a huge piece of land and he was earning over $58,000,000 a year in gold.
There is a lesson to be learned from one of the stories told about King Solomon. It was said that two women each claimed to be the mom of the same child. Solomon commanded the kid to be cut in half and shared between the two. One woman quickly told him to give the baby to the other woman, showing that she would rather give up the child than see them killed. Solomon knew that woman was the true mother and gave her the whole child.
When you want something, you can’t have it half-way. Giving 50% is never going to give you anything good. Do you want to get rich like King Solomon? You need to have good judgment. It is said that Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. People from all nations came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom.
The queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon and even came to test him with hard questions. Solomon answered all her questions; nothing was too hard for him to explain to her. When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built, she gave him 120 talents of gold—roughly $10.5m in today’s value—large quantities of spices, and precious stones. When you give, give, give, you get, get, get.
He wrote many proverbs during his reign—over 3,000 of them. Inspired by that, I want to give you some of the proverbs I live by:
“If you don’t do something, you’ll end up being nothing.”
“I am guaranteed to get where I am going because I refuse to stay where I am.”
“What you have done is nothing compared to what you can do.”
“You think knowledge is expensive? Try stupidity.”
“Failure is something you should never try to rationalize.”
“90% of all success is showing up.”
“Don’t criticize my swag, find yours.”
“If you don’t believe in you enough to invest in you then don’t be surprised when others don’t invest in you.”
