How To Gain Life Balance
By Jerry Fetta
Balance is a topic sought after by most in life. It seems attractive and it does make logical sense as to why it is attractive. Balance – a state of equilibrium. Equilibrium means “a state of rest or balance due to the equal action of opposing forces.”
I defined the word first because I believe that most don’t actually know what balance means. It sounds nice and it looks like a noble thing to pursue, but the reality is we need to understand it before we can achieve it (or really make the decision to want to achieve it).
Think about the definition though. A state of rest or balance to due equal action of opposing forces. Balance would be the unstoppable force vs. the immovable object. Essentially, a “balanced life” would be a life where a person is facing an obstacle they cannot overcome and because of that the individual is not moving. That doesn’t sound attractive does it?
Life cannot be lived in a state of rest or opposition. Life needs to be moving and creating at all times.
I bring up this topic of balance because I teach people about wealth. Wealth means a life of abundance and prosperity. If someone seeks rest or constant opposition, they cannot achieve wealth. That’s a fact.
So what is everyone seeking then? If balance isn’t a good thing, what is the thing everyone seems to be missing or looking for?
I’ll share my opinion on this subject. Before I do, I want to give you an all too common illustration.
Have you ever purchased on knock off brand? Whether it be food, clothing, a vehicle, furniture, training, etc.? A knock off brand can appear to look enticing and like the real thing, but ultimately it isn’t. It usually ends up being a poor purchase. Balance is like a knock off brand. There is a thing that exists that will solve the problem you think balance is going to solve.
Let me explain.
In life, your job is to create. You create your thoughts, your emotions, your ideas, your actions, and your results. If you create a variety of things, you will have fun and probably have a good life. If you create only the same things over and over and over, you will probably get bored and eventually decide that life isn’t going too well.
This is how “balance” works. Except it’s not balance. It’s creativity.
Those who think they lack “balance” actually lack creativity.
It’s hard to feel “burnt out” on something when you have a variety of exciting things that move you towards your dreams right?
Additionally, I believe commitment breeds creativity. So if someone lacks creativity, it also means they lack commitment. This doesn’t mean they’re lazy or a bad person. It simply means they haven’t identified anything in life yet that they want to commit to above all else. Until someone finds this, I believe they will feel the symptoms that make them believe they need “balance”.
Here’s how you can do this.
Realize “balance” isn’t real and if it was, it wouldn’t be good for you.
Determine what you do with your time now and if you don’t like it and it doesn’t help you, stop doing it. Choose something new that will either help you, or you will enjoy, or both. Do that instead. Repeat the cycle until you have a new variety and excitement towards your life.
I did this recently. My morning routine was beginning to feel old and crusty so I switched it up. I woke up half an hour earlier, went to the gym first, and then started having a coffee at a local café while I did my studying for the morning. This re-energized me about my routine and has helped me succeed more.
I didn’t seek “balance” though. I sought creativity and variety.
Creativity is part of a wealthy life. Believe it or not, most financial firms do not teach this fundamental truth to their clients and because of that, people live life with no purpose and no money. My job is to help you gain purpose, wealth, and freedom.
