Are Politics DISRUPTING your Relationships?
We had a “Heated Political Debate” on the #MorningGrind with #GTT this morning. What I mean by this is how DISRUPTIVE politics are to your relationships. How politics can be disruptive to your friends.
I believe today that politics is becoming more of a DIVIDED factor. People today get so offended when you don’t agree with their viewpoint. Why are we doing that? Why are we so judgemental?
Political talk makes you sick. It causes such negativity in your body. Everyday you only have so much in you, if you spend most of the day on political talk it will drain you.
We are so offended if we don’t share beliefs. We are so offended if we don’t agree. Is it the “Everybody gets a Trophy” mentality that we are up against. What I mean by that, is the generation today gets a trophy no matter what. So are we setting this generation up to not know how to win an argument. Are we missing the structures how to agree to disagree, to listen to each other’s beliefs?
We live in a world that is so grey. A lot of things are “kind of” right and “kind of” wrong. It is not black or white. A lot of us will listen to 80% of what you say, but if we disagree with just 20% we will only fixate on that 20% that is incorrect in order to prove you wrong.
So what should you do? I recommend reading the book “How to Win Friends and Influence Others.” It teaches you how to Understand how others think.
You would get much further along in life if you learn to acknowledge other people’s beliefs. Learn to acknowledge how they think, how they feel, what they are saying. Don’t argue it. Don’t try to prove them wrong immediately. In our office, we Listen and then we Acknowledge.
Watch out for what the media tells you!
